How to Create a Script Using our Sample Scripts

TextOut's sample scripts can help you build your texting Program. They cover various campaign and organizing goals,  compiled from our best messaging experience and workflows to engage Contacts in authentic conversations.

Providing Texters with information about a Program helps them understand the goal. Program admins can include workflow images, links to external sources, or other materials to use as a resource. Click here to view a sample Program description for Texters in the "About this Program" section.

Workflows help Texters follow the design of the script and conversation flow in a Program. Each sample script has a sample workflow for users to customize.

How to use TextOut Sample Scripts

Make a copy of the sample script to work on in Google Sheets. Click here for step-by-step instructions on how to copy a Google Sheet to your Google Drive.

TextOut's sample scripts only work with Google Sheets. They will not work the same way in Excel or any other spreadsheet software.

How to use the TextOut Sample Scripts

The sample script design allows for uploading the Script quickly into a Program. The Google Sheet operates like a " mail merge" but in a spreadsheet format. Each sample script includes a Script base and standard replies that use customization tags to assist in writing the best messages for Programs.

Understanding the tabs within the Sample Script

Every Script template has four tabs:

  1. "Instructions" lays out the step-by-step actions inside the file.
  2. "Script Template" is the Script Base. You may edit the cells in this tab, including changes to the reply body, reply titles, and inserting any dates to control replies' visibility. Do not edit the customization placeholders (the content <between the brackets>), or they will no longer function correctly.
  3. "Customizations" list all the customizations needed to complete the Script. Customization placeholders will pull this content to insert into replies. They range from short phrases, like support statements, to dates for critical deadlines such as registering to vote.

    The  Customizations tab contains:
    • Program customizations,
    • Details of their purpose,
    • Samples to read,
    • Examples of each customization inside an actual script.

Enter customizations in " Column F" (Your Customization Replacement Text). The content will automatically appear throughout the Script on the "Review Final Script to Load" tab without typing the exact words repeatedly.
  4. "Review Final Script To Load" is the final Script. This tab combines the Script base, adds the customizations, and puts it all together automatically on the "Review Final Script to Load" tab. If Scripts replies are added or deleted, double-check that the same number of rows on the "Script Template" tab appears on the "Review Final Script to Load" tab.
Note: The "Review Final Script To Load" tab is always updating. If it's working at first, give it a few seconds to fill everything in.

How to upload the final script

  1. Load the Initial Outbound to the Program. Upload Row 2 of the "Review Final Script To Load" tab.
  2. Load the Recommended Replies. Highlight all the cells from A3 through column F on the "Review Final Script To Load" upload into TextOut and copy and paste them into the Program.  All replies will appear at the bottom of the Replies list. Move the Recommended Replies around as desired.
